Three initial points are provided as input, belonging to the Common, the External and the Internal Carotid Arteries. Our algorithm is divided into two main steps: first, two minimal cost paths are tracked between the CCA and both the ECA and the ICA. The cost functions are based on a multiscale vesselness response. Second, after detecting the junction position and cutting or extending the paths based on the requested lengths, a level set segmentation is initialized as a thin tube around the computed paths and evolves until reaching the vessel wall or a maximal evolution time. Results on training and testing datasets are presented and compared to the manual segmentation by three observers, based on a ground truth and using four quality measures.\n","license":"You are licensing your work to Kitware Inc. under the\nCreative Commons Attribution License Version 3.0.\n\nKitware Inc. agrees to the following:\n\nKitware is free\n * to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work\n * to make derivative works\n * to make commercial use of the work\n\nUnder the following conditions:\n\\\"by Attribution\\\" - Kitware must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor.\n\n * For any reuse or distribution, they must make clear to others the license terms of this work.\n * Any of these conditions can be waived if they get permission from the copyright holder.\n\nYour fair use and other rights are in no way affected by the above.\n\nThis is a human-readable summary of the Legal Code (the full license) available at\nhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/legalcode","keywords":["multiscale analysis"," segmentation","Vesselness response","level set method","minimal cost path"],"authors":[{"name":"Krissian, Karl","email":"krissian@dis.ulpgc.es","affiliations":["University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria"],"corresponding":true},{"name":"Arencibia, Sara","affiliations":[]}],"date_submitted":"2009-08-28 11:36:56","external_publication_id":672,"revision_cids":["bafkreicll6wago45z7zlne6wurbv6wewoxuxgapkknhgxyqyg5q54zseje"],"thumbnail":"https://pub.desci.com/ipfs/bafkreif3q7o6p27dgrf3dflfesenwo7sjlaxpehzt4jmgecmgruqvb4gwe"},"mdast":{"type":"root"},"downloads":[{"url":"https://ipfs.desci.com/ipfs/bafkreigbqie62zzs2etvtm3nze576ckkq2fgrdscgij4j2czsxtktu4swu","title":"root/insight-journal-metadata.json","filename":"insight-journal-metadata.json","extra":{"size_bytes":6124,"type":"file"}},{"url":"https://dweb.link/ipfs/bafkreiegsxcbkpuuqicxpjs5rvfcfndhul2gops54llt2dbkjp3thqrdve","title":"root/article.pdf","filename":"article.pdf","extra":{"size_bytes":365992,"type":"file"}}],"references":{"cite":{"order":["ref1","ref2","ref3","ref4","ref5","ref6","ref7","ref8","ref9"]},"data":{"ref1":{"label":"ref1","enumerator":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/s1361-8415(01)00046-9","html":"Fast extraction of minimal paths in 3d images and application to virtual endoscopy+Medical Image Analysis+2+4+December 2001+3+T.
