Roles, which can be seen as methods dynamically attached to objects, are embedded in components, to limit build level dependencies and improve flexibility. An appropriate component definition and composition language is proposed to declare softwares, without any specific initialization or glue code, this remaining a challenging issue in component oriented programming. The potential of this architecture is illustrated for a software coupling electromagnetic tracking with a robotized system dedicated to the physiological motion rejection in flexible endoscopy. This software consists in several independent components with are combined at runtime thanks to a concise XML-based declaration.","license":"You are licensing your work to Kitware Inc. under the\nCreative Commons Attribution License Version 3.0.\n\nKitware Inc. agrees to the following:\n\nKitware is free\n * to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work\n * to make derivative works\n * to make commercial use of the work\n\nUnder the following conditions:\n\\\"by Attribution\\\" - Kitware must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor.\n\n * For any reuse or distribution, they must make clear to others the license terms of this work.\n * Any of these conditions can be waived if they get permission from the copyright holder.\n\nYour fair use and other rights are in no way affected by the above.\n\nThis is a human-readable summary of the Legal Code (the full license) available at\nhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/legalcode","keywords":["component","computer assisted intervention","rapid software prototyping","XML"],"authors":[{"name":"Fasquel, Jean-Baptiste","email":"Jean-Baptiste.Fasquel@ircad.u-strasbg.fr","affiliations":["IRCAD"],"corresponding":true},{"name":"Chabre, Guillaume","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Zanne, Philippe","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Nicolau, Stéphane","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Agnus, Vincent","email":"vincent.agnus@ircad.fr","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Soler, Luc","affiliations":[]},{"name":"De Mathelin, Michel","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Marescaux, Jacques","affiliations":[]}],"date_submitted":"2009-07-07 09:05:23","external_publication_id":648,"revision_cids":["bafkreihb3ynqyswbrm6xrfp6alogkluy6xf4itwcsfof5rilzbwpzo53ye"]},"mdast":{"type":"root"},"downloads":[{"url":"https://ipfs.desci.com/ipfs/bafkreics2wndwjlji64bxq2uzkrjcbqcncrnbrisg7s2qeuisjggmr2nfu","title":"root/insight-journal-metadata.json","filename":"insight-journal-metadata.json","extra":{"size_bytes":7453,"type":"file"}},{"url":"https://dweb.link/ipfs/bafkreihwbooxbprrctrcsnxcdbvj5rtfa3dmti5uqepoldnqxtces5myxm","title":"root/article.pdf","filename":"article.pdf","extra":{"size_bytes":303303,"type":"file"}}],"references":{"cite":{"order":["ref1","ref2","ref3","ref4","ref5","ref6","ref7","ref8","ref9","ref10"]},"data":{"ref1":{"label":"ref1","enumerator":"1","html":"2009"},"ref2":{"label":"ref2","enumerator":"2","html":"2009+VR-Render"},"ref3":{"label":"ref3","enumerator":"3","url":"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neuroimage.2007.04.026","html":"Challenges in imageguided therapy system design+Neuroimage+144+151+2007+K.
