Accurate and reliable segmentation of tumors is e.g. essential for the follow-up of cancer treatment. The core of the algorithm is a level set function. The initialization is provided by a spiral-scanning technique based on dynamic programming. The level set evolves according to a speed image that is the result of a statistical pixel classification algorithm with supervised learning. This method is tested on CT images of the abdomen and compared with manual delineations of liver tumors.","license":"You are licensing your work to Kitware Inc. under the\nCreative Commons Attribution License Version 3.0.\n\nKitware Inc. agrees to the following:\n\nKitware is free\n * to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work\n * to make derivative works\n * to make commercial use of the work\n\nUnder the following conditions:\n\\\"by Attribution\\\" - Kitware must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor.\n\n * For any reuse or distribution, they must make clear to others the license terms of this work.\n * Any of these conditions can be waived if they get permission from the copyright holder.\n\nYour fair use and other rights are in no way affected by the above.\n\nThis is a human-readable summary of the Legal Code (the full license) available at\nhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/legalcode","keywords":["spiral-scanning technique","liver metastases","segmentation","liver tumor","level set"],"authors":[{"name":"Smeets, Dirk","email":"dirk.smeets@gmail.com","affiliations":["Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, ESAT - PSI"],"corresponding":true},{"name":"Stijnen, Bert","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Loeckx, Dirk","email":"dirk.loeckx@uz.kuleuven.ac.be","affiliations":[]},{"name":"De Dobbelaer, Bart","affiliations":[]},{"name":"Suetens, Paul","affiliations":[]}],"date_submitted":"2008-07-06T16:33:21Z","external_publication_id":581,"revision_cids":["bafkreibfyz2q2lhwm6fplgyuebl3ak4kejriwwxme3nwmm5sgvuu3xlsyq"]},"mdast":{"type":"root"},"downloads":[{"url":"https://ipfs.desci.com/ipfs/bafkreiaous6pokqxhwzm3mustvwzh5hmgla4di44y4h7tryvp7qzne52cy","title":"root/reviews.md","filename":"reviews.md","extra":{"size_bytes":1120,"type":"file"}},{"url":"https://ipfs.desci.com/ipfs/bafkreiavru7quyupmoqyqnysqrcjgcin4z5resictkci4uoc6lki7hc5ea","title":"root/insight-journal-metadata.json","filename":"insight-journal-metadata.json","extra":{"size_bytes":11059,"type":"file"}},{"url":"https://dweb.link/ipfs/bafkreifccuomipbsqwayshzra7adf3lpk2i76szb6fwphskkdxd44jmbzi","title":"root/article.pdf","filename":"article.pdf","extra":{"size_bytes":211194,"type":"file"}}],"references":{"cite":{"order":["ref1","ref2","ref3","ref4","ref5","ref6","ref7","ref8","ref9","ref10","ref11","ref12","ref13","ref14","ref15","ref16","ref17","ref18","ref19","ref20","ref21","ref22"]},"data":{"ref1":{"label":"ref1","enumerator":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.1093/jnci/djj403","html":"Sometimes size doesn't matter: Reevaluating RECIST and tumor response rate endpoints,\"+Journal of the National Cancer Institute+1272+1274+September 2006"},"ref2":{"label":"ref2","enumerator":"2","url":"https://doi.org/10.1148/radiol.2252011604","html":"\\CT tumor measurement for therapeutic response assessment: comparison of unidimensional, bidimensional, and volumetric techniques initial observations,\"+Radiology+416+9+2002+S.
